I'm in love...

...with Scott Pilgrim! I've been planning to blog about this comic of ultimateness but with Spring Break and life, I've been postponing my blogging. Scott Pilgrim, italicized not the person, is a graphic novel series by Brian Lee O'Malley. He's Canadian, nuff said. To be honest, I'm happy it's set in Canada. Once you read the series, you'll understand why this is so appropriate. The basic premise of the series is that 23-year-old unemployed Scott Pilgrim gets with New Yorker, Ramona Flowers. But in order to remain Ramona's boyfriend Scott must defeat her seven evil ex-boyfriends. Indie Canadian rock bands and video game references are bountiful. While still unknown to some, lots of buzz will stir (primarily with pseudo-hipster teens) as a result of the upcoming movie adaptation with who else but Michael Cera playing Scott. Cera's a bit too young in my opinion, but he has the Scott Pilgrim dorkiness to make up for it, plus he's from Ontario! Oh, the irony...

Best quote everrr....

Scott Pilgrim contains life, but the magical realism elements take life to a whole new level. I can completely identify with the characters' situations. It's all human, yet with a +20 exp and super sword thrown in. As a video gamer, especially of the RPG genre, I appreciate O'Malley's playful fusion of reality and video game reality. Don't we all wish we could hit a block and get a magic mushroom to get stronger? I do.
